Mushroom Names
Cross-reference Genus and Species
Biologists group mushrooms and all other known organisms into different genera (singular: genus) and even further into species. This model is known as binomial nomenclature, where a fungus' group and subgroup names identify general and more specific relationships with other mushrooms. Shared characteristics can include shape, color, spore release method, or simply a shared evolutionary ancestor, among many other things.
Select a genus or species from either dropdown menu below to see any related fungi. Each mushroom name listed in the results is linked to its Wikipedia page. Shared species names are far less common than matching genera, but they do exist. Please also note that this is nowhere near a complete list of fungi.
