Bigfoot is scheduled to make a grand appearance—as an emoji! The elusive cryptid will show up on phone keyboards next year as part of Unicode 17.0's annual update. While officially named "Hairy Creature" for a global audience, the glyph clearly resembles North America's beloved Bigfoot, shown sauntering along in profile. Designers modeled the image after a specific Sasquatch seen in the famous Patterson–Gimlin film, shot in Northern California in 1967.
According to the Unicode Consortium's website, new emojis are evaluated based on their popularity and uniqueness—and what could be more iconic than this legendary beast? Although the organization expects to finalize its emoji selection during fall of this year, you most likely won't be able to text your friends the new graphics until spring of 2026.
