Video: Air Taxi Resembling UFO Takes Test Flight in China

By Alec Fernandes

Recent footage from Wuhan shows a model of flying car that's out of this world. The bulbous silver craft completed an early public test flight, showcasing a sci-fi design that deviates significantly from the fixed-wing silhouettes of its competitors. The vehicle features eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) technology and seats up to four passengers. It's currently intended for short trips, around 20 minutes, with aeriel sightseeing tours planned for 2027.

While the craft's current performance metrics position it primarily as a tool for tourism, this successful flight represents yet another step forward in the race for public air taxis. The global competition for this new mode of travel is intensifying: in the United States, the FAA has recently announced a comprehensive air-taxi initiative, paving the way for commercial testing to begin across 26 states this summer.
