An unusual pair of lights appeared over West Texas on Saturday night, sparking an online debate about their origins. Videos spreading across social media show a gleaming white dot moving horizontally with a glowing ring bursting out in front.
While some are pointing to aliens as the source of the lights, others argue they're from a nearby SpaceX launch. The rocket's exhaust fumes can form a circle that sometimes reflects sunlight, creating a shape similar to the glowing spiral cloud seen over the UK late last month. "Looks like rocket contrails," one Reddit user wrote. "SpaceX does flights out of Texas, if they launched today you'd probably be able to see it in the night sky."
Not everyone, however, is convinced by this explanation. "Those were aliens," another Reddit user claimed. "They saw us, locked their doors, and got outta dodge." A user on TikTok commented, "Do not say it was [a] SpaceX launch, we saw what we saw! This thing went into another dimension after shooting out a perfect circle cloud."
