About the show

In the first half, psychotherapist and author Dr. Art Rosengarten discussed how Tarot cards can serve as a valuable tool in therapy. With over 50 years of experience in his field, he explained that his approach bridges the visual and spiritual elements of Tarot with traditional therapeutic practices.

Rosengarten began by acknowledging the heightened levels of anxiety and mental health issues currently in the US, citing that nearly one in five adults reported experiencing mental illness in 2024. "There's a lot of patients in psychotherapy in America these days, because the country is going through a little bit of a chaotic period," he noted.

Rosengarten shared how a program at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco inspired him to explore the psychological imagery in Tarot. He found that "these are such powerful images that are so psychological," allowing for a wealth of associations that can be unlocked during therapy sessions.

A critical aspect of Rosengarten's method is synchronicity—a Jungian concept that suggests meaningful coincidences can provide insights about someone's condition. He explained, "When you work with Tarot, you begin to start seeing everything a little bit different," opening up a lens of symbolism that allows clients to explore inner meanings.

Rosengarten also described the structure of the Tarot deck, saying that it consists of 78 cards—22 Major Arcana representing transformative archetypes and 56 Minor Arcana corresponding with everyday psychological situations. He differentiated between his specific use of Tarot and other predictive tools like astrology or numerology, suggesting that Tarot encourages personal reflection rather than strict interpretations. "It invites a person to kind of free associate with the cards and find the meaning in their own natural selves," he remarked.

The second half of the program featured Open Lines, where listeners called in to discuss topics of interest. Aaron from Arizona shared a heartfelt tribute to his recently passed dog, Nugget, conveying how deeply they bonded over 15 years and how he's received comforting signals from Nugget after his passing. He also requested a mass prayer for a sacred piece of land in Arizona called Oak Flat, which the local Apache tribes are trying to protect from mining.

Ruth from Maryland discussed paranormal occurrences she has experienced in her laundry room, attributing some activity to spirits attracted to electricity. Cole from Texas brought up a theory about pillars beneath the pyramids and their possible connection to energy. Marcy from San Diego asked for listeners to collectively direct their thoughts and energy towards removing Russian President Vladimir Putin from power.

Jim from Delaware discussed the upcoming papal elections and shared his thoughts on a specific candidate, a Black cardinal from Africa. Cornelius from Louisiana expressed gratitude for the friendships he's made through Coast to Coast and reminisced about family traditions around the upcoming Kentucky Derby.

The final half hour of the program highlighted a segment from Coast to Coast's 10/6/04 show, when Mary Ann Winkowski shared her knowledge of curses and ghosts.
